The most used silicone fluid in the market is dimethyl silicone fluid(polydimethylsiloxane). Dimethyl silicone oil has certain fundamental properties that make it suitable for use in cosmetics, household goods, electronics, chemical coatings, construction, automotive, machinery, fiber, and paper industries. Because dimethyl silicone fluid has hydrophobicity, after treatment by it, which can form a very thin layer of hydrophobic film, which is used for dustproof and anti-condensation water vapor of automobile glass, ship, and aircraft glass windows. After the paper surface is treated and dried with dimethyl silicone oil solution, it has good hydrophobicity. Leather treated with dimethyl silicone oil has better abrasion resistance and wear resistance, prolonging the service life. Dimethyl silicone oil can also be used as a surface treatment agent to improve the waterproof, anti-corrosion, and anti-frost properties of metals. After adding a small amount of dimethyl silicone oil to the inorganic powder, it can endow the inorganic powder with anti-adhesive properties and improve its compatibility with organic polymers. Adding dimethyl silicone oil can also improve the dispersion of synthetic resins and coatings in organic compounds, and improve the overall performance of coatings. Many new applications require the use of modified silicone fluid with special properties. For example, polyether-modified silicone oil is used as detergents and defoamers for textile industry applications. Long-chain alkyl-modified silicone oil is used as a lubricant or release agent for the lubrication of soft metals, rubber, and plastics.
