What is a Release Agent? 

A release agent is a coating that uses a silicone stock solution or is diluted with various diluents. It has low surface tension, low surface energy, and super spreadability, and can form a film on an extremely irregular and complex interface, providing a uniform and regenerative release film between the surface of the substrate and the molded product. It effectively avoids the bonding between the processed product and the substrate, so that the demoulding of the product becomes simple and efficient. Silicone release agent is suitable for various material substrate molding processes, such as molding, extrusion, injection molding, lamination, calendering, etc.

Release agent structure

Release agent is a siloxane or silicone polymer composition containing Si-O-Si bonds to form the main chain structure. Silicone is chemically inert, so the release agent is an inert substance, which solidifies into a layer of inert coating intervening between the product and the substrate when the product is molded, thereby weakening or isolating the adhesion, and providing a certain amount of lubrication to reduce the demoulding resistance, achieve the rapid and safe stripping of the product, improve the appearance quality of the product, reduce the post-processing process, improve production efficiency and reduce its production cost. Release agents are usually used in industrial fields such as rubber, die-casting, food processing, and plastics, used for anti-adhesion between molded products and molds, which helps to create durable, high-surface finish products, and keeps the surface of the mold in a lubricated state, thereby reducing the loss of the mold, prolonging the service life of the mold, and greatly saving the operating cost.

Fluid release agent

Fluid release agent is mainly composed of linear high-molecular silicone polymers, such as methyl phenyl silicone oil, methyl silicone oil and various modified silicone oils. For different usage occasions, decide whether to use water or solvent for dilution. The fluid release agent can be directly used as the original solution for occasions where it is not suitable to add water or solvents. The higher the viscosity of dimethyl silicone oil, the more obvious the release effect. But the lower the viscosity, the better the affinity and the better the lubricating effect on the mold. For molds below 100°C, solvents such as toluene and xylene can be used for dilution. For precision casting high-temperature molds, mineral terpene solvents can be used for dilution.

Emulsion type
Emulsion type release agent is based on silicone oil or silicone resin and is an emulsification system after adding various emulsifiers for emulsification (OW type). Release agent properties

Release agent uses

The selection of the correct release agent is essential during the early development and production of molded parts. The release agent should be selected under the conditions of the mold conditions (material, structure, and shape), the material of the product to be formed, the post-processing technology (painting, bonding, embossing, etc.), thinner, and the limit temperature of the forming process of the molded product. For example, when epoxy resin, polyurethane rubber and polyurethane resin are processed and molded, long-chain alkyl silicone oil is used to release the mold, which can effectively prevent the cured silicone substance from migrating to the surface of the molded product, reducing the phenomenon of whitening and cracking on the surface of the product, and then reduce the Defective products caused by demoulding.
