Rubber Compounds

They have the perfect balance of mechanical and chemical properties and thus meet the requirements of many demanding applications.
Yongrui has a variety of extruded and molded rubber compounds, and can also customize rubber compounds that meet the requirements of customers.

What are rubber compounds?

Rubber compounds are synthetic elastomers mainly composed of high molecular weight linear polyorganosiloxane and silica micropowder. The system adopts an organic peroxide curative and a platinum catalyst to achieve rapid cure at high temperatures and pressure. The cured silicone elastomer has excellent mechanical properties, high and low temperature resistance, physiological inertness, and anti-aging properties, and can be used to make auto parts, various buttons, sealing rings, gaskets, rubber hoses, and cable by molding or extrusion. Rubber compounds are an environmentally friendly silicone material, ideal for the preparation of various rubber products.

Rubber compounds chemical structure

Rubber compounds, also known as solid silicone rubber or thermally vulcanized silicone rubber, are colloidal substances that compounding agents are dispersed in the raw rubber system. Compounding agents can be a softener, white carbon black, anti-structural agents, colorants, and crosslinking agents, and they can also be additives that can improve the performance of silicone rubber. The purpose of the compound rubber formula is to crack the macromolecular chain of the raw rubber under the action of machinery and heat, and cross-link with the active groups of the compounding ingredients, so as to improve the performance of the rubber, improve the process performance and reduce the cost. The most common silicone rubbers are vinyl silicone rubber, phenyl silicone rubber, and fluoro silicone rubber. Depending on the demand and end use, increasing the vinyl content or increasing the viscosity of the raw rubber changes the tear strength, elongation, and tensile strength of the product. The desired properties can also be enhanced by adding different compounding agents. For example, adding silica with a large specific surface area and a large number of Si-OH groups on the surface, such as precipitated silica or fumed silica, can improve the mechanical properties of silicone rubber. Plasticizers can be added to impart flexibility and impact resistance. Appropriate addition of anti-structural agents can effectively prevent structural and enhance storage stability. Finally, the crosslinking can be carried out using a condensation system organic peroxide crosslinker or addition system platinum catalyst according to the end use.

Rubber compounds properties

Rubber compounds are also known as silicone elastomers which have both the properties of inorganic and organic materials and their overall performance is far superior to that of traditional organic rubber. Its most prominent performance is thermal stability. Even if it works in an ultra-wide temperature state (-60°~+250°) for a long time, the physical and mechanical properties are almost unchanged, and it can still maintain good elasticity. Elastomers also have excellent resistance to atmospheric aging, such as long-term exposure to natural climate conditions and light radiation, without obvious changes in physical properties. In addition, resistance to arc, corona, and electric spark is very strong, so that it has excellent electrical performance. Different additives can also be added to customize the rubber compound formulation to provide the best solution for different application performance requirements. By adding some special additives, the thermal oxidation stability of silicone rubber can be improved, the heat-resistant temperature can withstand up to 300°, and the cold-resistant minimum temperature can reach -100°. The silicone rubber containing phenyl group can be introduced to improve the radiation resistance. Add a proper amount of flame retardant to make it self-extinguishing and flame retardant which is used as an insulating material for outdoor high-voltage power transmission equipment and electrothermal equipment.

Why use rubber compounds?

Rubber compounds are used in large quantities in products that you often use in your daily life. Different performance formulas can be flexibly customized according to the final product use. Due to their excellent high and low temperature resistance, rubber compounds are widely used in rubber parts for new energy vehicles. The insulating and protective cables for vehicles are made of rubber compound materials to ensure that the cables maintain excellent flexibility in high-temperature working environments for a long time, provide designers with more freedom, and are easy to assemble and operate inside the small space of the new energy vehicle. They also have excellent tear resistance, which can effectively reduce the high-voltage component wires' risk of stress cracking and surface scratches during the turnaround, installation, and use. Rubber compounds are cured with a platinum catalyst, almost whitout by-products and corrosive gases, which is conducive to providing a safer and more comfortable environment in the car. It is also possible to use the rubber compound with excellent anti-vibration and impact resistance to make power battery pack sealant, which can ensure the normal operation of the battery under different climatic conditions.

In addition, high voltage transmission and distribution insulation applications such as insulators, arresters, through-wall bushing, and cable accessories. Industrial miscellaneous applications such as seals, oil seals, O-rings, rollers, and insulating tubing. Civilian consumer applications such as diving goggle seals, eyeglass nose pads, baby bottle nipples, and shoe liners. Other automotive applications such as ignition sleeves, axle seals, piston sheaths, front and rear spindle oil seals, front and rear crankshaft oil seals, automotive transmission belts, door and window seals, and dust jackets. Medical accessories applications such as catheters, connecting wires, connectors, tubing.
