RTV-2 silicones are a two-component room-temperature vulcanizing silicone formulation. This type of mixture can be pre-mixed with a certain proportion of crosslinking agent or catalyst according to the end user's use and stored and used by the user in a bicomponent pack. The two parts are crosslinked after being mixed in situ by pouring, coating, or extrusion operations at room temperature. The crosslinking reaction can be polycondensation or addition. It can be customized formula (ingredients or process) to obtain different consistency and chemical, and mechanical properties to meet the application of different occasions.
RTV-2 Silicones chemical structure
RTV-2 is a two-component system cross-linked at room temperature, which is mainly made of a mixture of hydroxyl-terminated or vinyl-terminated polydiorganosiloxane, reinforcing filler, or MQ silicone resin, curing agent, catalyst, auxiliaries, anti structuring agents. Typically component A is the polymer composition, and component B is the curing composition. Before use, the appearance of it is a uniform paste or viscous body with a certain fluidity. After curing, it forms compounds in different physical states: solid silicone rubber, silicone gel, and foam silicone rubber.
Two parts containing an organotin catalyst that emits a small amount of gas during use or a platinum catalyst that does not form by-products, the functional group condensation reaction or silico-hydrogen addition reaction occurs immediately after the mixing. It also can adjust the silicon hydrogen reaction by adding reaction inhibitors to obtain the desired shape and properties and to prevent the reactant from curing before use.
RTV-2 has a special chemical structure, which makes its performance very stable even in a wide range of temperature differences. Similar to other polysiloxane elastomers, it has excellent temperature resistance and can be used in the range of -60°~+250°. Even if it is used continuously, it will exhibit stable performance in such a wide temperature range of -40°~+200°, without losing the elasticity of the rubber. With the addition of special components, it can withstand 350° high temperatures in a short period of time. For low-temperature resistance, silicone rubber containing phenyl groups is added, which allows it to remain flexible at minus 100 degrees Celsius. RTV-2 is non-adhesive to most substrates in contact, has excellent mold release properties, and is an ideal material for making soft molds. Add a tackifier to the silicone composition or pre-coat the primer on the surface of the substrate to improve its adhesion, and it is suitable for building sealants with high stability requirements.
Compared with insulating materials such as epoxy resin or polyester resin, it exhibits stable electrical characteristics under drastic changes in the environment such as temperature, frequency characteristics, and humidity. Even if there is a short-term decline in electrical properties at the initial stage of vulcanization, its electrical insulation properties will recover by themselves after the gas volatilizes in the atmosphere, and the use will not be affected. The thermal conductivity of RTV-2 mixed with thermally conductive filler is twice that of synthetic rubber, and it can be used for insulating parts of electrical and electronic equipment. For power semiconductor components or welding seam parts with special requirements for cushioning and shock resistance, it has stress relief, provides key protection for electronic components, and achieves high reliability of electronic components. It also has excellent flow, release, and high tear resistance characteristics, so that the details of the original are clearly reproduced, and it is suitable for the manufacture of master molds such as polyurethane and epoxy resin.
Compared with RTV-1, RTV-2 has the following characteristics:
Two-component packaging, more stable storage Cured thickness is not constrained The curing time can be controlled so that production efficiency can be improved It can be used in an environment that cannot be heated so there are more applications Synchronized center and surface for more uniform curing Fluidity, non-fluidity optional including low viscosity ~ high viscosity Curing does not depend on moisture in the air, it can be accelerated by heating
Why RTV-2 Silicones?
RTV-2 is commonly used in the production of soft molding materials such as various exterior decorations (artwork, reproductions of cultural relics), dental impressions, and the reproduction of footprints or fingerprints. Due to the excellent low surface tension and easy molding process of liquid polysiloxane compounds, the use of this type of silicone in making soft molds can improve the tear resistance and precision of molded products. Therefore, the molded parts obtained by injecting polyurethane or epoxy resin into the silicone rubber mold can reproduce the fine texture of the original sample in high definition. In the leather footwear industry, silicones are used in the manufacture of negative molds for synthetic leather face patterns. Compared with the traditional shoe-making process, by using a silicone rubber soft mold with high tear strength, high-temperature resistance, and not easy to deform under high pressure to process the plastic sheet, the process is simplified, and the productivity and economic benefits are greatly improved. In the field of photovoltaic modules, due to their rich and reliable durability and light resistance, RTV-2 is used as the optimal adhesive solution for solar cell modules.
